About The Handyma'am

About Me

I grew up in a Slate Belt dairy farming family, the youngest of 5 kids. My dad was a crane operator for the Operating Engineers (Local 542) and my mom worked in various blouse mills until she began working for and, eventually, retired from Binney & Smith (Crayola).

I’ve done a variety things in life, prior to becoming a handyma’am.

  • I have a BS in Psychology
  • I have a MS in Health Psychology
  • I have a MA in Political Science & International Relations (focus: Iranian politics, Political Islam and Non-state actors)

I’ve worked in factories, as a janitor, a community based mental health case manager and worked in the Pharma industry on the Project Management side of clinical trials. Until becoming a handyma’am, the job I enjoyed most was coordinating human subjects research in the Departments of Psychiatry and Psychology at Penn. I’m also a US Navy veteran and a Returned Peace Corps volunteer (Guinea, West Africa). I live locally, and I am proud to help my community and neighbors with my unique, hands-on skill set.

What Exactly Is A Handyma'am?

What exactly is a Handyma'am? Think of it as a handyman with a woman's touch. A handyma'am combines practical skills, attention to detail, and quality craftsmanship to help homeowners tackle repairs, maintenance, and improvement projects both inside and outside the home.

About The Handyma'am Business

Handyma'am was born from my innate nature of fixing things and my desire to understand how they work. As a homeowner myself, and through years of helping friends, family, neighbors, and local homeowners, I have gained more than 15 years of hands-on experience in home repairs, maintenance, and improvement projects. I like to think of myself as a general contractor and subcontractor rolled into one. My broad range of skills allows me to tackle many of the small and medium-sized projects that homeowners encounter both inside and outside the home. From repairs and installations to maintenance and improvements, I enjoy solving problems and helping people keep their homes safe, functional, and well-maintained. The idea for Handyma'am grew while helping friends and neighbors with DIY projects and "honey-do" lists that were beyond their or their “honeys” comfort level, skill set, available time, or tools. I recognized a need for a reliable, trustworthy professional who could help homeowners complete projects without the hassle of hiring multiple contractors for smaller jobs.

Who We Serve

While Handyma'am proudly serves businesses, partnerships, and homeowners of all ages, backgrounds, and lifestyles, many of my clients are single women, single parents, busy families, seniors, and older adults who appreciate having a trusted professional they can call when something needs attention. Many clients have shared that they feel more comfortable having a woman working in and around their home. I take great pride in providing services that are professional, respectful, dependable, and approachable.

How the Process Works

1

Initial Consultation & Estimate

After our initial conversation, I will schedule a convenient time to visit your property and review the full scope of work. This visit serves as both an evaluation and an estimate appointment. A flat fee of $75 is charged for all estimates. Within one business day, I will provide you with a detailed electronic estimate via email or text outlining the agreed-upon work.

2

Agreement & Scheduling

If you choose to move forward, I will provide an invoice that also serves as our service agreement. Once approved and signed, we will work together to establish a project start date and estimated completion timeline. I also remain flexible to your timeline and comfort level. I will work closely with you, communicating throughout the entire project.

3

Pricing & Project Changes

Project pricing includes labor and estimated material costs. Because every project is unique, pricing may be adjusted if additional materials or labor become necessary. I do not charge travel fees, and there is no minimum price for any service charge.

4

Change Requests

Should you request changes after work has begun, I will discuss any adjustments with you before proceeding. Significant changes to the original scope of work may require additional charges. A change request will then be noted and adjusted.

5

Deposit & Final Payment

A deposit is required before work begins. One-third (1/3) of the total project cost, plus any specialty item costs, is due upon signing the agreement. The remaining balance is due upon completion of the project.

6

Accepted Payment Methods

I accept Cash, Check, and Credit/Debit Cards. Please note that a 3.5% processing fee will be added to all credit and debit card transactions.

Service Area

The majority of my work is performed throughout the Slate Belt Region of Pennsylvania and surrounding communities.

Common service town & locations include Easton, West Easton, Wilson, Palmer Township, Forks Township, Nazareth, Bath, Tatamy, Stockertown, Wind Gap, Pen Argyl, Bangor, East Bangor, West Bangor, North Bangor, Roseto, Portland, Martins Creek, Mount Bethel, Ackermanville, Flicksville, Plainfield Township, and many surrounding communities.
